Five steps to your residential solar installation
Get your custom quotation
Meet with a Green Origin solar energy consultant to discuss how solar could work for your home. We explain the proposal and the figures behind it.
Home assessment
We assess your home, energy needs and roof orientation to understand the conditions for a solar installation.
Customize the system to your needs
A solar energy advisor reviews the project, including how the electricity could be used in your home, stored in a compatible battery or exported to the local utility.
Installation by professionals
Installation is carried out by locally licensed, experienced electricians.
Support and maintenance
Review the panel manufacturer warranty supplied with your system. Optional support and maintenance can provide additional help after installation.
A solar system designed for your home
Every home has different energy needs and roof conditions. The home assessment and design review are part of the process, so your system is based on your property and how you use electricity.
How does solar work with the grid?
Solar panels generate electricity during daylight. Electricity used in the home at that time can reduce what you draw from the grid. When an approved micro-generation system exports surplus electricity, your electricity plan determines the bill credit you receive.
After sunset, the panels stop generating and your home can draw electricity from the grid. Export credits can help offset the bill, but the grid does not store your own electricity for later delivery. An interconnection agreement sets out the connection arrangements with the distribution utility; it is separate from your retail electricity plan.
A standard grid-connected solar installation is not a backup power system. If power during an outage matters to you, discuss a compatible battery and backup arrangement as part of the design.
Support after installation
Keep the manufacturer warranty documents supplied with your panels and other equipment. Ask about the optional support and maintenance program and what it includes for your system.
Questions before you book
Will solar remove my electricity bill?
That depends on production, consumption, rates and fixed charges. We do not promise a zero bill. A useful estimate includes both the expected generation and the charges that remain.
Do solar panels work in Calgary winters?
They can generate when daylight reaches the panels. Shorter days, snow cover, roof orientation and shading affect output. Compare annual and seasonal estimates rather than expecting summer output all year.
Should I replace my roof first?
If your roof is approaching the end of its life or needs repairs, discuss that before installing panels. Removing and reinstalling an array later adds work.
Do you install commercial solar too?
Yes. Our commercial solar service starts with the building, electrical demand and site requirements. Use the same quote form and select Commercial Solar.
